(1 February 2001) -- In our last article, we mentioned grabbing a couple of QBs from the same team to ensure your team will almost always have a starting QB on the roster. Well, we realize that can be a difficult thing to do. So here's some tips on some players you want and don't want depending on your combinations.
Feel good if these guys are your No.1 QBs: Tommy Maddox, Charles Puleri, Casey Weldon Be cautious if the following are your leaders: Mike Pawlawski, Marcus Crandell, Tim Lester, Jeff Brohm, Ryan ClementStart making some moves if your starters are: Paul Fialla, Pat Barnes, Jim Druckenmiller Pickup these backups if you can afford three QBs: Jay Barker, Chuck Clements, Brian Kuklick
If
you have Tommy Maddox:
Grab Scott Milanovich! DO IT! You'll thank us around week 3
when Maddox gets called up to play for Dan Reeves again.
If
you have Charles Puleri:
Stay away from Wally Richardson, he shouldn't put up much of
a fight. Pick up Jim Druckenmiller, Jay Barker or Brian Kuklick
as your second QB. Since you already have a secure starting
QB in Puleri (albeit not a fantasystar) this will help you out
for two reasons: 1) you hurt the guys withMarcus Crandell, Casey
Weldon and Jeff Brohm since they can't secure theteam QB no
matter what. 2) you may end up with great trade-bait when theirstars
go down. And these guys are a shoulder-injury away from starring
on nice offenses.
If
you have Mike Pawlawski, Marcus Crandell or Jeff Brohm:
Work on getting the backups behind them while also thinking
about getting Chuck Clements. Clements was the starter until
a shoulder injury knocked him out of service. Ryan Clement has
entered the season as a starter, but Chuck comes back next week
and may have the job if Clement plays even average. Not much
talk around the leagues about Chuck, so now would be a great
time to grab him before Ryan has a bad half.
